My Book Review: Zero Day by David Baldacci

Zero Day (John Puller Book 1) by [Baldacci, David]My Review and Thoughts:

This is a great action crime story laced with a lot of information and logic of reality in crime solving. This book mixes a whodunit murder mystery around a small town and the government. The characters are very well-developed, very thick and understanding on just who they are.

You get the backstory, the present and everything that displays itself through an understanding, with believable scenarios of individuals coming to life off the page and into your memory.

This is a very informative book filled with information on crime scene analysis and going through the proper analysis of a crime. Like many stories dealing with a government military man, he has his past haunting's, being in war, watching people die, experiencing pain himself.

John Puller has been called into investigate a murder of a government official, in a coal mining small town. When there he discovers that there's a lot more to the story than just the average murder. More and more bodies start to show up, secrets and lies, cover-ups, a town with a story waiting to be unraveled. I think what makes this book stand out a lot more than just your average military murder mystery is the characters themselves.

The writing flows so in-depth to the characters themselves and the actions they are taking; it grabs you. Description, average happenings, describing the town. Most of the time this reality turns me off, because it's just filler to make the story longer. The way that Baldacci writes, it displays each action, whether it's drinking coffee or looking down at a victim. In most cases that would just be stretching the book, but what he does is place you there in the surroundings, in the actions, in the ordeal with each character. Whether it's describing the victim, or the analysis taken place, it all seems real, and comes off the page to make it seem real. That is what I love about his writing.

There are many twists and turns, and I never saw some of the outcomes that were taken place. Just when you think you know where it's going, it does another turn. Main characters, and outcomes that floored and twisted the plot. Loved the character of Samantha Cole. The chemistry between Cole and Puller is a fantastic experience. Loved the emotional and personal side of Puller in the glimpses we get.

A great character. A great story. A great conclusion. I was very well satisfied and thoroughly entertained. I really love the character of John Puller. Another ass kicking, military crime solving, American Bad ass that gets the job done.

Would I Return to it Again: I would return to the series? The next chapter in Pullers reality. The good thing about this book is the story is concluded, so if you don't want to return to the series, you don't have to.

Would I Recommend: For those who love Army plots. Government conspiracies. TV shows like 24, The Unit. Authors like Tom Clancy.
